We are delighted to have been selected as the supplier for a new sub-zero de-palletising system for a major global customer.
The system will operate in a -30°C cold store and will be centred around a KUKA KR120 R3200 PA Arctic robot. The robot is specifically designed for operation within extremely low sub zero temperatures and can work in such environments without a costly protective suit. Because of this, upfront and operating costs remain low compared to alternatives that require a protective shroud.
Furthermore the energy supply to the robot flange is specially adapted for freezing environments so the robot is “Arctic” in the truest sense of the word!
Other features include a camera system to ascertain pallet orientation prior to picking by the robot; the camera itself will be housed in a protective heated enclosure with integrated hydrostat for moisture detection and thermostat to ensure the camera is operating within the correct temperature range.
The implementation of systems like this in such extreme environments is becoming increasingly commonplace as companies struggle to find labour to carry out such monotonous, unpleasant tasks. The system will provide the customer with the ability to re-deploy resource to more value added work and safe guard staff welfare.
