Leading UK Manufacturer of domestic and industrial cleaning equipment selects SCM to supply bespoke manipulators for one of its new assembly lines.
The customer required a bespoke solution to assist its operators during the assembly of one of its new “ride on” vacuum cleaners. The assembly process itself consisted of a number of very awkward operations that were required to be carried out at differing positions throughout the build and provided the team at SCM with a challenge to find the right solution.
SCM proposed the supply of its innovative EcoLift dual pivoting bionic arm with an electric raise, lower and rotation unit built into its column as well as secondary rotation unit for secondary assembly once the water tank has been fitted.
The design allows the operator to bring the chassis of the vacuum cleaner to the unit whereupon the its rear open channels are guided onto two protruding bars. Once the chassis has been slid on, two toggle clamps lock it in position. The chassis can then be raised to a working position and can be lowered and rotated in any position during the various stages of the mechanical build.
Once the chassis has been mechanically built the EcoLift allows the operator to pick it up, place the water tank feature below and then place it the chassis onto it. The supply of these two units will both reduce the time of the mechanical build while at the same time alleviating any health concerns.
A secondary unit capable of raising, lowering and rotating the whole unit has also been provided to the customer.
